We're in the process of developing the Sharing Our Stories, Telling Our Lives project, created by Deborah Forde and coordinated by Sheron Edey, with Quin Green taking on outreach and animation this summer. This participatory community theatre project is interested in using storytelling, theatre, and oral history concepts to support the resilience of Montreal’s Black community and descendants of broader immigrant populations. This starts with conducting workshops in Image and Forum Theatre with community groups around Montreal, and mentoring a group of teens in interviewing and video-archiving their community in Little Burgundy.
We'll be using the stories offered to work towards a devised piece in the fall, and finish with a project-model which can be shared and replicated with other communities thereafter. We'd like to thank Tyndale St-Georges, St Raymond's Community Center, and Westhaven Community Center, for helping us kick off our community-engagement with eager participants from their youth summer camps. We're continuing to work closely Tyndale's Youth Co-Op to develop a short oral history based theatre piece, and hope to keep discovering Montreal's stories through expanding our inter-generational outreach.
Coming this Fall!
